Profiling Art: East and West
Sala Principi di Acaja, Palazzo del Rettorato, Via Po 18, Torino
May 4, 2020
In the framework of the WHU-UNITO Research Partnership For Aesthetics and Philosophy of Art, on May 4th, 5th and 6th it will be held the second WHU-Labont Joint Workshop on Ontology of Art.
Description
The question of the definition of art was addressed in the framework of the American philosophical research and was mostly focused on the possibility to provide a definition in terms of necessary and sufficient conditions. Unlike that approach, the research hypothesis that the conference proposes promotes a cooperation between the Chinese philosophy of art (leader Wuhan) and European on (led by UniTo) as oriented by the possibility of offering a profile of art. That is to say to evaluate and understand its essence and explain it on different conceptual basis. This conference aims to understand why art matters in the age of globalization by understanding what art is in a Chinese-Western cross-cultural comparative context.
