Topic: Digital Ethics: The issue of images
Abstract. Digital technology is about to fundamentally change our societies. This raises a broad range of ethical issues, the discussion of which might ultimately lead to digital ethics. Since addressing all issues and questions of digital ethics would by far be too broad in scope, it is suggested to focus the discussions of the conference at the Villa Vigoni on ethical issues concerning the production, dissemination and, ultimately, consumption of digital images.

What is needed in times of the dissolution of single images into an array of discrete pixels and the reduction of images with meaning to mere data is visual ethics as part of digital ethics. Bringing together philosophers, lawyers, sociologists and image scientists, the contributions to the conference shall lay the groundwork for a better understanding of the ethical issues involved. It is envisaged to formulate the results of the interventions, presentations, workshops, and discussion of the conference in the form of a thesis paper.
