

Thomas Dreier

Thomas DREIER, Dr. iur. Munich, M.C.J. (New York University), is Professor of Law at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT; formerly University of Karlsruhe), Germany, where he is the Director of the Institute for Information and Economic Law, and Honorary Professor at the Law Faculty of the University of Freiburg, Germany.
He has been an advisor to the European Commission, the Council of Europe and UNESCO on copyright matters, amongst them the issue of regulating copyrights regarding satellite and cable retransmission. Prof. Dreier is a Member of the Executive Committee of the Association littéraire et artistique internationale (ALAI). He also chairs the copyright committee of the German Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (Deutsche Vereinigung für gewerblichen Rechtsschutz und Urheberrecht e.V., GRUR). In addition, he has been appointed as Senior Fellow of the Käte-Hamburger-Kolleg “Law as culture” in Bonn, Germany (since 2015) and has been a Fellow of the German Center for interdisciplinary Studies (ZiF) in Bielefeld, co-directing a study group on the ethics of copying.
Thomas Dreier is the author of numerous publications, amongst them Dreier/Schulze, Urheberrecht, 6th edition, 2018, Kur/Dreier, European Intellectual Property Law, 2013 and he also is co-editor of the “Concise IP” commentaries on European intellectual property law, amongst them Dreier/Hugenholtz, Concise European Copyright Law, 2nd edition 2016. He is also an editor of the newly founded series of monographs “Recht und Bild – Studien zur Regulierung des Visuellen”, published with NOMOS.
